The Breed

Scottish heritage, Australian heart

The Belted Galloway originated in the rugged hills of southwest Scotland — a region called Galloway — where they developed into an exceptionally hardy breed. Their distinctive white belt and shaggy double coat have made them one of the most recognisable cattle breeds in the world.

Often called “Oreo cows” for their striking markings, Belties are beloved for their gentle temperament, easy calving, and ability to thrive on rough pasture. The miniature variety carries all the same qualities in a smaller, more manageable package.

Our herd

Our herd is unregistered and bred for temperament, character, and that classic belted look. Some of our cattle carry panda markings — the distinctive white markings on the face that give them a bear-like appearance. These panda-marked belties are especially popular with families and hobby farmers looking for a real head-turner in the paddock.

Every calf born is unique — no two are ever quite the same. Some arrive with the traditional full belt, others with panda markings, and each one has its own pattern and personality. It’s part of what makes this breed so special and why our calving season is always full of surprises.

Whether you’re after a traditional belted beauty or one of our rarer panda-marked calves, every animal is handled from birth and raised on certified organic pastures in the Blackwood Valley. They’re living proof that good things come in wee packages.
